The End

Nothing like typing The End

I’ve only typed the words “The End” once to backspace and delete them immediately. I did it once when I finsished a really tough mss, I figured that one deserved The End. The rest just get a final hit of the save button and I back away from the computer for a break. BUT still there is nothing like the feeling of finishing a WIP at least not for me. It’s a little whoo hoo and a little let down all wrapped into one warped feeling. The feeling of accomplishment is awesome, even if I’m the only person to read it. Of course I do have a couple of friends who hound me to read and they always offer up good advice. And even knowing it is littered with ??s because I am too lazy or wrapped up in writing to stop and research something or find the ‘right’ word as I was chugging along.  Those are easy fixes.

The hard part? The next step! This time it was spewing out a synopsis and querying agents. The new hard part? Waiting patiently – yeah right, or in my case not so patiently.

Reading or Writing?

Tuesday, 20 May 2008 11:06 by Rhonda

I recently conducted my own unofficial test. When I read a good book I get so involved in it that I don’t work on my WIP. So for the past three weeks – can you say pure torture? – I have not read anything, except a newspaper article or two.  The results? I have had produce about 100 pages and the kicker is I was able to plot the story out by thinking it over in my uncluttered brain. This WIP is down to the nitty gritty with only two scenes left to write then I’ll set it aside and READ A BOOK. And no while this little test was going on it didn’t prevent the order of more books for the TBR mountain.

Now I am off to see if I can figure out how to work the blogroll as I saw one of my awesome writing buddies linked to  me (and said very nice things about me too). And it is past time I try to figure this out....

My year of determination

Thursday, 15 May 2008 21:46 by Rhonda
I made up my mind after sitting out of the writing game for a few years that is was going to be my year of determination. Okay, I actually make up my mind about this after final-ing in the 2007 Brava contest. Then I finished the novella and mailed it in before the contest ended. That was January 2008. Then and there I promised myself that I would work hard this year to see if I have what it takes. I would write each day, well this was revised to writing each week. Some days I can find time, some not. Some days I can write two pages and be happy, and some days I can write twenty pages or more. So the way I figure if I’m only writing once for the week, it has to count. My family has been supportive. I’ve been determined. I found out about another publisher contest and had a finished manuscript sitting around. This contest was for a full novella. I had a story that needed an ending and polishing. I pulled it, took a weekend and went through it. I found out today that it finaled in the Red Sage contest. To say I’m excited doesn’t sum it up. There are four finalist two will be published. I’m sitting here thinking that maybe, just maybe it will be me. I don’t know when I will find out, but regardless of what happens, it is another step in the right direction. And one I'm gladly willing to take!

Mother’s Day

Sunday, 11 May 2008 20:06 by Rhonda

I have by vote made the decision to move Mother’s Day this year. At least for ME, lol. Today was insane to say the least. My mom seemed to enjoy it, so other than a spare gift (which I was unable to find) her Mother’s Day for the year is taken care of. Mine on the other hand is NOT. After fighting the worse icky summer cold in recent history my house looked like a tornado had passed though, the clothes had to be washed, the bills had to be paid, and I SHOULD have done some work for the day job, that however didn’t happen.

My family has been informed that MY Mother’s Day will take place in a couple of weekends when we go off to our camp where I will write and write and maybe read a book or two or six. I’ll be waiting – not so patiently. J

Life Happens While You're Sick

Friday, 9 May 2008 11:01 by Rhonda

Mom’s birthday was last Sunday. Happy Birthday – Mom! We had boiled crawfish for the second weekend in a row, yum. This Sunday is Mother’s day and well, I feel like I’ve been run over by a freight truck. My head is fuzzy, my eyes itch, and my teeth hurt, self-diagnosing sinuses, oh and a lovely low-grade fever. So what would I like for Mother’s day? To feel better? Seriously I hate being sick, but I guess I shouldn’t complain. I managed to get through the entire winter without a stinking cold. But… imo summer colds are the worse and down south it is already summer temps!
